Mr. Brierley has been employed in the forest industry in both the private and public sectors, which has embraced forest management and environmental and transport consultancy. He joined the staff at Silsoe, in 1996, as a lecturer in forestry and woodland management. This varied employment history has enabled him to contribute to HND courses in Rural Environment Management, Agriculture and Business and Finance, to the BSc courses in Environment Management and Business Management and the Environment and to the MSc course in Agroforestry.

He is a course tutor for HND Rural Environment Management; the course attracts students keen to combine a broad understanding of environmental issues with some of the practical skills needed to apply them to countryside management.

Mr. Brierley's appointment as a lecturer has enabled him to resume research interests in tree nutrition and woodland ecology.
