Born in Durban in 1936 and spent his early years in South Africa, Canada and England. After graduating from Oxford he taught in French Iyc�e. He spent fifteen years working in London advertising agencies before becoming a full�time writer in 1975. His novels have been set all over the world, from behind the former Iron Curtain to the rainforests of Latin America. In 1992 he moved with his wife to France where they now live in a lovingly restored farm cottage.
